What has happened to music?

I don't know how many of you have been following the legal developments in the music industry lately but let me attempt to give you some resources to catch you up?

This website covers the current trial of RIAA vs Joel Tenenbaum. Here is a quick intro to what is happening as provided by the site.

He is being sued in court for file sharing, a habit millions of Americans participate in me included and you too most likely. The RIAA is seeking the ultimate fine possible; $150/song which would mean Joel would have to pay 4.5 million dollars if the jury agrees with the parasitic prosecution.

That last article is a year old but I didn't hear about it until recently. It basically tells about places being sold for playing copyrighted music. One place got sued $210,000 for playing music.

Now don't get me wrong, I think people have a right to protect what they own but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed.

I have a few questions I would like you consider about these situations:

Since when is the legal system used for companies to make money?

Do we need to worry about driving around listening to cds with our windows down and having the music escape the windows which would be a case of playing music without a license?

Do cover bands and beginning musicians need to worry about being fined for covering other bands songs or just learning by using them?

What is next? People being sued and fined for quoting copyrighted lyrics?

To the RIAA, MPAA, ASCAP, and any other money devouring corporation,

You cannot put a price on thoughts, words or culture. You have crossed the line and are fighting a battle you will not win.

Milltertime!! - new form of negotiation science

So as any one who has heard US news lately I am sure you have heard of what is being coined as the Beer Summit; the meeting between the professor and the officer that arrested him and they shared drinks provided by Obama. For national issues, such negotiations and tactic may work but I hope Obama doesn't try to make this a standard tactic for international diplomacy it would turn bad, trust me I know from experience...

On March 17th, I was celebrating the great holiday of St Patricks day with a few friends and a couple of Russians. At first it was about cultural sharing and such but hours later arguments broke out and the Russians insisted on the continuing practice of drinking even when people were already puking and passing out. They wouldn't take no as an answer so we had to get sneaky whenever offered a shot.

It may sound weak of me but I pretended to pass out with the majority of the party til the russians left then we noticed they took the rum and left the vodka. Turns out they took two of our party out to the parking lot and continued drinking with them even after one of the two puked. So if you find yourself drinking with other nationalities be warned it may lead to people vomiting and others waking up in the shower naked.

On a side note I say we have Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg be the mediators for peace talks in the Middle East because if peace isn't ever found over a plate of hash brownies there will never be peace.

Microsoft Windows makes me wish I wasn't an atheist...

just so I could pray to god to damn it, flood it, rain fire onto it, and condemn it to hell.

I had to use Windows for the first time in like a week and a job that should have taken 20 minutes took almost an hour just because of windows freezing up and causing programs not to respond.

I think if there is only one god for the old testament and new testament; during the old testament he used Windows which explains why he was easy to upset and irritable; Sodom and Gomorrah happened not just because of what the people were doing but because God's computer BsD'd twice and he was irate.

The new testament god switched to Linux and its been smooth sailing since then, look at the "facts" he decided to save people because he was relieved not to use windows.

I hope that Lindsay Lohan making a milkshake isn't huge news because just the thought of more people knowing about that than knowing about the Honduras Coup D'Etat would say how much our society has sank into an egotistical celebrity-filled coma.

I don't mean to sound hypocritical cuz I do know about this whole Lindsay Lohan milkshake topic because I get bored and read random websites; but I also know how Zelaya was put on a plane by his own military but anyways now to the reason I am writing this...

Watching this video, http://tinyurl.com/nq3wmr I started feelings sorry for Lindsay Lohan something that confuses my emotions because she has for the most part created all the attention around her yet I feel bad cuz she still seems human and not just an attention hungry celebrity but you be the decider.

Dear Law enforcing officers...this is a rant

Tonight I was pulled over whilst driving in the Dells after watching a movie at the theatre. I knew I was being followed by a cop so I took extra care to make sure I wasn't doing anything illegal as in speeding or illegal lane switching but it was only a matter of moments til I saw the flashing lights in my mirrors.

I must say that it was slightly humourous getting pulled over, the officer asked me for my license which i didn't have at the time so I gave him my passport and once I did that he asked me where I was from ohio, michigan things like that although my plates said wisconsin. He also asked all three of my passengers for their ids which everyone gave him and whilst he was back in his car 2 more squad cars showed up; one being the k9 unit.

The k9 unit officer approached my car and started questioning whether I had any drugs on me or if there were any in the car; as most of you probably know me there weren't any but I gave him permission to take the dog around and sniff and what not; i feel having the drug dog there was an act of profiling me since I do have longish hair and a beard so I must fit some type of stereotypical drug using profile.

After the dog went around my car 3 times and found nothing the original officer that pulled me over came back and said he was letting me go with a verbal warning about the little light that lights up the license plate being burnt out; and this is what made me mad.

If i am going to go pulled over have 3 squad cars, and the k9 unit all used and be given a verbal warning, are the officers really doing their job. One of my passengers weren't wearing his seat belt, but no ticket, I have no rear view mirror, no ticket, my dashboard lights don't work, no ticket, was it really worth my time and the tax payers of Wisconsin Dells to pull me over? I think not.

Further more, I think law enforcement would be incredibly more useful if:

1. They didn't waste time pulling people over for minor infractions

2. and two that all cop cars be undercover so that the paranoid drivers won't feel more pressured and screw up by accident and that the people that don't care about the laws would be pulled over and get what they deserve.

It isn't very interactive but it can be entertaining in a way, especially if you have a strange sense of entertainment as I do. The main thing about nationstates is that you are given two issue a day and you get to agree with given opinions of those issues and those agreements affect the laws of your nation in exaggerated ways. A thought upon waking...

what day is it? It is something I must make an effort to figure out on almost a daily basis due to my extremely irregular sleep schedule. The typical day for the average person is the time that exists from when the sun comes up and goes down and then comes back up for me. But if I hold this same schedule I'd be going to sleep just as the new day is starting ruining the start of any new day for me. Instead I tend to consider a new day starts when I wake up and ends when I go to bed which occurs usually within 24 hour blocks like the normal persons day,

This process only becomes difficult when I speak to someone who insists today is yesterday and tomorrow is today just cuz they follow a different day schedule. I should definitely research the idea of 28 hour days http://xkcd.com/320/ seems like it could work for me

How Newton And Einstein Have Imprisoned Us All Or How Choice Is An Illusion At Best

After a long partially intoxicated debate about how it should be possible to mathematically and accurately approximate the Sun's energy output and the potential solar flare, I came to the realization that living a purely scientific life is the most disheartening and depressing existence I can imagine.

The problem of calculating the Sun's energy output isn't that its an imponderable number; it is the fact that everything and I mean EVERYTHING has an everything else; in such a way that me typing this very blog could lead to a cataclysmic storm that kills thousands of people next year. Which I would of course feel bad for but there is no way to calculate that event.

Einstein showed how everything is related, Newton demonstrated that everything has an equal and opposite reaction put both of them together and you get the the complete lack of free will.

Let me explain how my vodka-powered mind at the time came to that conclusion; We as people are able to make choices yes but we are limited to my said choices from the options available to us. There are not unlimited choices for any given option either. Every decision, every action someone else does affects what choices you have. Each choice you makes robs you of incalculable choices in the future.

A sadder thought even is what if love isn't by choice but every event that ever accord forced the events that led you to be "in love" causing you to have no say once so ever leaving you doomed to believe in something that isn't truly there, scientifically and mathematically that is the way things happen, Yay for rationalism. I apologize for any digression but as you will soon tell there was no digression.

Romeo And Juliette Had It Easy..

As the narrator explains in the beginning, they were destined_{it can be aruged that everything is predestined even in a rationalist's world but that is another thought for another day} to be with each other and destined to die, they didn't need to go through the rough reality of love that it doesn't always fit like a glove. Now don't get me wrong, I have loved and I believe I am in love and it contains great feelings when I talk to, am with, and think about the person that I love. I wish sometimes I could just take the person I love and just show her how I feel and how it makes me feel when I cant openly express how I feel, but perchance I am overlooking something, missing the vital piece of the rosetta stone causing something to be lost in translation and its my problem that I am in this situation. Don't get me wrong, I would most likely never leave this situation if given the chance cause I care for her too much but I am starting to think other couples had it right.

Sid and Nancy, Sylvia and Ted, Kurt and Courtney, Eva and Adolf, They all had love; real, passionate, self destructive love that when it was going good it was great and picturesque but when it was bad it was catastrophic, that is true love I think. All of these couples ended in some sort of morbid tragedy befitting of Shakespeare.

Who knows, maybe Willie was on to something when he killed of the best known couple in the world..
